If there are no previous assessment reports available within the last 3 months, a new assessment is required. Initial assessments typically require at least 1.5 hours to complete. These are usually scheduled across the first and the first half of the second 60-minute sessions, or over two full 45-minute sessions, depending on client needs and session structure. (Please see Services and Communication Overview below)
Upon request, a brief addendum summarizing key findings and general recommendations may be provided at no additional charge. An external comprehensive assessment or progress report is available for an additional fee and is usually billed at 0.75 to 1.0 times the hourly rate additional to the session fee, depending on the complexity and scope of the report requested.
Other billable services, including screening, observation, evaluation, reports, and attending multidisciplinary meetings are available. These services will be billed by hourly rate in addition to therapy session charges.
If you have relevant requests or specific report needs, please discuss them with your clinician prior to the session.
Please note that the rates may be updated annually or as needed based on the recommended rates by Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC) and unexpected costs due to travelling needs and administration. You will be notified about the upcoming fee updates 3-4 weeks before the start date.

Receipt Policy
Payment is expected at the end of each session. We do not offer pay-later or invoice-based options. Receipts are provided upon payment. We offer convenient payment methods including secured online credit/debit card payment and email transfer.
Appointments are generally scheduled on a weekly basis to support continuity and effectiveness of care. This frequency may be adjusted based on the client’s needs and goals, in consultation with the clinician.
Once services begin, regular attendance is expected. Consistent participation helps promote progress and ensures each client receives the support they need. Maintaining a routine also allows us to responsibly manage our caseload and offer timely access to other individuals who may be in urgent need of services.
We understand that scheduling conflicts or unexpected situations may arise. If you are unable to attend a session, we ask that you provide notice as early as possible in accordance with our cancellation policy. Your cooperation helps us maintain high-quality service and equitable access for all clients.
Your child’s assessment includes several important steps to understand their strengths and needs. This process involves:
Reviewing intake and background information
Conducting formal and informal evaluations
Analyzing results and observations
Setting individualized therapy goals
Discussing recommendations with you
Completing required clinical documentation
Each session includes more than just direct therapy time. To support progress and collaboration, sessions also include:
Direct one-on-one treatment with your child
Communication with parents or caregivers
Verbal suggestions for home practice (with written follow-up if needed)
Ongoing treatment planning based on your child’s needs
Clinical documentation to monitor and guide care
If the session takes place at school or care facilities, a brief summary may be shared with you through a secure, encrypted messaging platform to maintain timely communication and protect confidentiality.
Our speech-language pathologists (SLPs) are registered with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO). Most private insurance plans will cover speech-language pathology services by a registered provider. Additionally, eligible clients may access funding through programs such as the Ontario Autism Program (OAP). Please confirm with your insurance and funding resources for the eligible amount and details.
At this time, we do not offer direct billing to insurance providers. Our billing arrangement is directly with you. Receipts are issued after each session once payment has been received. All receipts are issued in the client’s name and will include details such as session type (individual or group), duration, fee, and whether the session was conducted in-person or virtually. If your benefits plan includes coverage for speech-language pathology services, you may submit the receipt to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
All official receipts are issued under the client’s name and will include relevant details such as the session type (individual or group), duration, fee, and whether the session took place virtually or in person. For sessions that include caregiver or parent training, the receipt will still be issued in the child’s name. Upon request, we can include a note indicating the portion of the session dedicated to caregiver training and the name of the attending caregiver.
Please speak with your SLP in advance if this information is needed on the receipt. We also recommend checking with your insurance provider to confirm whether caregiver training is covered under your plan.
Speech-language pathology fees may be eligible for medical expense tax credits. We recommend consulting with a tax professional or referring to current tax guidelines to determine your eligibility.
OHIP covers speech therapy services in certain circumstances, primarily for children and youth under 19 through publicly funded programs such as school-based support or community health centers. Adults may receive coverage if speech therapy is part of hospital outpatient services, typically following surgery, injury, or certain medical conditions
For children, government-funded programs like the Preschool Speech and Language Program and School Health Support Services offer speech therapy at no direct cost. However, private clinics and private speech therapists are not covered by OHIP, and services outside the public system must be paid out-of-pocket or through private insurance.
For more information, you can explore resources like the Ontario Health Insurance Plan and specific program details on government websites.
